Support UNICEF on World Refugee Day

by UNICEF USA

World Refugee Day, celebrated on June 20th each year, celebrates the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape persecution, war or violence.

As World Refugee Day is recognized this year, the refugee crisis in Ukraine continues to unfold with extraordinary speed and scale. At the same time, tens of millions of other refugees struggle, awaiting humanitarian assistance or safe harbor.

The child refugee crisis is bigger today than it’s been since at any recent point since World War II. The number of child refugees increased by more than 100 percent between 2010 and 2020.The majority of the world’s refugees come from just five countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, South Sudan, Syria and Venezuela.

UNICEF provides urgent humanitarian supplies such as safe water and medical supplies for children and families on the move, as well as longer term assistance like education or psychosocial care for those displaced by war, conflict, extreme poverty or natural disasters.

You can help support UNICEF:
• $1 can provide 40 days of safe water for one child
• $12 can provide a refugee family with 1 tarpaulin to provide shelter from wind, rain and snow
• $34 can provide 1 emergency UNICEF Family Kit (critical for delivering medical care, safe water and hygiene, protection and education to restore a sense of normalcy for children)
