Help UNICEF continue to support children in Syria & Türkiye

by UNICEF USA

One year after two devastating earthquakes and numerous aftershocks hit south-east Türkiye and Syria, the consequences continue to reverberate for affected families and children. A year later, millions of children are still in need of urgent humanitarian support.

In Syria, children continue to suffer in one of the world’s most complex emergencies, where the impact of the earthquake is compounded by the effects of a wider ongoing humanitarian crisis. An estimated 7.5 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance. A harsh winter and freezing temperatures are making things worse. In 2024, UNICEF requires $401.7 million to provide an essential lifeline to 8.5 million people, including 5.4 million children. The greatest funding requirements are for WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), health, and education, while protection continues to be a high priority.

In Türkiye, 3.2 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance. Education has been disrupted, children are continuing to experience psychological distress, and access to water and sanitation remains limited due to damaged infrastructure. The earthquake disrupted education for over 4 million children, and many children the affected areas remain out of school. In 2024, UNICEF requires $116 million to address the humanitarian needs of 3 million people, including 1.7 million children, who continue to suffer the consequences of the earthquakes.

As UNICEF continues to help children and families affected by this crisis in both countries, please consider making a gift that can support both immediate needs and long-term recovery.
