Middle East: humanitarian needs - July 2026 update

Since late February 2026, intensified hostilities across the Middle East have resulted in deaths and injuries, damage to homes and civilian infrastructure, and large‑scale displacement in a number of the Middle East countries.

The ICRC has a long‑standing presence in the region, with 15 delegations and missions and more than 3,100 staff. In response to the current escalation, we are reinforcing our work with Red Cross and Red Crescent partners to meet urgent needs and prepare for evolving emergencies.

In Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent Society—our primary partner—is providing emergency relief, medical care, and search‑and‑rescue support. The ICRC is supplying additional aid and technical support as needed, including equipping the IRCS warehouse in Tehran with relief and rescue items to strengthen its response. We are also coordinating with health partners in Tehran, Mashhad, and Sistan and Baluchistan to help maintain vital medical and rehabilitation services.

To support people affected by the widening conflict, the ICRC has delivered more than 18 metric tons of humanitarian supplies to the IRCS. This shipment included medical items for first‑aid disaster response and personal protective equipment for first responders operating in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear environments. These items were provided by the ICRC and other Movement partners, with the ICRC coordinating logistics.

This latest delivery follows two earlier consignments, including 176 tons of humanitarian assistance sent in April 2026. Together, these contributions reflect our shared commitment to supporting humanitarian action in Iran, with additional assistance planned in the months ahead.
