Severe floods, typhoons and landslides continue to disrupt the lives of children across Southeast Asia, as the region faces one of its most intense periods of climate-related emergencies in recent years. In November 2025 alone, multiple storms, overflowing rivers and prolonged heavy rains have damaged homes, schools and health facilities across several countries, leaving children at heightened risk of losing access to learning, safe water, health care and protection.
In Thailand, widespread flooding across nine southern provinces has affected nearly 3 million people, including more than half a million children, damaging over 800 schools and impacting health facilities across the region.
In the Philippines, 21 typhoons this season, including Kalmaegi and Super Typhoon Fung-wong, have affected millions of people, overwhelmed health and nutrition services and damaged thousands of schools.
In Viet Nam, 14 storms, including 7 consecutive typhoons, causing record rainfall, severe flooding and landslides across multiple provinces, affecting more than 1.5 million children and caused widespread damage to homes, water systems, schools and health facilities.
In Indonesia, severe floods and landslides across parts of Sumatra, as well as a recent earthquake and volcanic activity, have affected around 1.5 million people and displaced more than 570,000.
In Malaysia, weeks of heavy rainfall has caused flooding across several states, forcing thousands of people into evacuation centers.
UNICEF supports children across the region with safe water and hygiene supplies, essential health and nutrition support, temporary learning and child-friendly spaces, mental health and psychosocial care, and emergency cash assistance to help children stay safe and continue learning during these emergencies.
