Lifesaving Assistance & Emergency Aid in Yemen and Around the World

Yemen, located on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, is home to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. After more than a decade of conflict, over 80% of the population urgently needs humanitarian assistance. Families face unimaginable challenges: war, poverty, malnutrition and cholera.

In 2025, nearly 20 million people in Yemen will need support just to survive. More than 8 in 10 Yemenis now live in poverty. Yet despite the scale of need, the humanitarian response is dangerously underfunded—and one of the hardest to operate anywhere in the world.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been on the ground in Yemen since 2012, and we rapidly scaled up our work in 2015 to meet the escalating needs caused by conflict, violence, food insecurity, and economic collapse. Today, we deliver emergency aid, clean water, health care, education, and protection for women and children. We also support families to rebuild their lives through livelihood programs and safe access to essential services.

Despite restrictions on air and seaports and ongoing violence, the IRC has maintained access to affected communities and continues to deliver essential services.

From 2022 to 2024, the IRC reached over 5 million people across 11 crisis-affected governorates in Yemen. In 2024 alone, we supported 1.7 million people, including more than one million women. Our work prioritizes those most at risk—women, girls, migrants, and marginalized groups—through integrated, life-saving responses that address immediate needs and support long-term resilience.
