ICRC humanitarian response in Lebanon - July 2026 update

Lebanon continues to face a highly challenging security environment, with the consequences of airstrikes and artillery shelling felt across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, Beirut, and Hermel. Hostilities along the border have intensified, resulting in widespread displacement and significant humanitarian needs. More than a million people have been forced to leave their homes, including over 134,000 seeking refuge in overcrowded shelters, while many others rely on makeshift accommodations or remain exposed on the streets.
Addressing humanitarian needs remains a priority for the ICRC. In close collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross, the ICRC is dispatching urgently needed medical consumables and weapon‑wounded kits to facilities coping with rising casualties. We also provide food parcels, hygiene kits, mattresses, and shelter materials to people facing protection‑related concerns. These efforts complement broader Movement activities aimed at strengthening access to essential services in hard‑to‑reach and underserved areas.
The ICRC’s work focuses on improving access to water, energy, essential household items, and food; supporting weapon‑wounded individuals through stronger pre‑hospital and surgical care capacity; and reducing the impact of hostilities through protection activities such as restoring family links and preventing people from becoming missing. To stabilize water and sanitation services, the ICRC supplied fuel to a key wastewater treatment plant in southern Lebanon and 82 water pumping stations across Baalbeck, Hermel, Saida, Jezzine, Nabatieh, Tyr, Marjayoun, and Hasbaya—helping ensure access to water for more than 896,000 people.
To meet increased demand linked to displacement, repairs and upgrades were carried out on boreholes and water systems in multiple areas of the Bekaa Valley and Nabatieh, serving more than 73,000 people. Additional conflict‑related repairs in Britel, Nabi Shit, and Marjayoun restored water access for over 63,000 people. Main distribution lines serving 13 collective shelters hosting around 2,000 displaced people were also repaired, improving services for both displaced families and surrounding host communities. The ICRC together with Lebanese RC continues to access hard‑to‑reach areas, including locations near front lines in southern Lebanon.
